Hello everyone!!!
Signed up a few years back but never posted before. Have read hundreds if not thousands of post though in the past few years. I finally have an issue that requires the attention of masses. Been on the search for a while now trying to find out information on this amp i bought about a year ago. It's the mc-275 commermorative edition gordon gow with an odd serial number on it. Mike Zuccaro of San diego (mcintosh tech) told me he was not able to find any info on this model number and when he called mcintosh they were not able to help him either. I have directly called Mcintosh and they couldn't help me either as no info was available. The only reason i am curious to find out about this unit is the fact that Mike told me when he opened the unit to check it out for a service, he noticed some of the inside wiring and boards and such (unfortunately i am not tech savvy yet so i don't remember exactly what components of the unit he was talking about) were different than the production units that were made for the mc-275 GG edition. Some resembled the original mc-275 wiring (point to point), but some other parts resembled the newer style/design with a board...
If anyone out there can help me or difect me towards an answer i would be relieved and appreciate it a lot. Currently, i am running the mc-275 along with the mx-110 and a pair Of. klipsch forte's and with all new output tubes And some fresh pre-tubes, it sounds wonderfull, just this mystery about the serial number

That was my fear that the unit was a knockoff, a pretty darn good one too. here are the nudies:banana::banana:

obviously the last picture is the mx-110 preamp/tuner but thought to clarify it is not the amp.
 
I bought it from a person not a dealer. I still have the previous owners' contact info but not sure if he was the original owner. Guess I could ask him since it won't hurt. I just thought there has got to be a record keeping by serial number. Just surprised as to McIntosh themselves not having any information. It's not a super old unit, just about 20+ years or so. Isn't that why there are serial numbers on them so you can track them?
 
There is nothing wrong with the serial number. All of the MC 275 CE units had an "E" serial number.
 
Then why is it that I can't find any information on it, say the model year and so forth. Also as a side question I forgot to ask previously, is there a bias on this amp that needs to be adjusted after swapping output tubes or is it self-biased. Much appreciated for your comments
 
Unit one of the GG CE is serial number E6001. Web searches turn up units for sale above E9000. Production went from 1993-1996.

Yours might be latter half of 1993 or early 1994.

Just my WAG.
 
Thanks for the information Luvinvinyl. Not sure how you searched the web to get that info and why McIntosh could not tell me that but either-way, it reliefs me somewhat as to the originality of my unit.

The definition of a genuine $20 bill is one that the counterfeiting so good it hasn't been detected yet.

MC275 CE is one specific model there is no common parts with original MC275 .You can just have common tubes that's all ! power transformer is different and output transformers are not the same at all !
All MC275CE are made with a long board inside not the original MC275 .
MC275CE like original MC275 is self biased no adjustment possible .

In fact they look the same but they are not !

The higher serial number that I got on one MC275CE for repair was over E9400

power transformer can of original MC275 are in iron , for MC275 CE they are in aluminium !
I don't understand your question and research but here are my answers !
 
What strikes me as odd is McIntosh Labs has no record regarding this particular amp. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't McIntosh Labs keeps records of their components. Seems to me I read this somewhere.

I sincerely hope you find the information you need, and your amp is indeed a legit Mac unit. :music:
 
McIntosh keeps track of service contracts issued when a unit is purchased from an authorized dealer and properly applied for......the warranty is only 90 days.

So if the previous owner gave you the service contract as part of the deal you would have the information of when it was first sold.....
 
Clinic-Audio , you have made it much clearer to me. Thank you for the information. You guys are awesome. I never thought I find the answer so quickly. Should have started posting long time ago. what is your opinion of the mc-275 CE? I know it is not the original mc-275 but how does it compare to lets say any of the other markV, VI's and so forth mc-275? Glad to know about the self-bias as well, makes it easier to replace them tubes if and ever I need to.
