McIntosh MC3500 Score! sort of

I was browsing eBay today as I do regularly when this pops up.

Well knowing good and well what the MC3500 is, I took a chance and pulled the buy it now trigger. I was very leary as there were no pictures and the seller does not accept PayPal. I immediately emailed the seller asking for pics and he sends me one from some web site that I have seen before. So I am somewhat certain this is bogus, but the auction looks legit and is a believable story behind it. I included my phone number in the email I sent so he calls me. Seems like a very nice older gentleman and so we get to talking about gear. He is somewhat of an audiophile and has some other Mac gear he uses personally. He said his business had been put in charge of an old church demolition and the amp was part of the sound system. So he tells me he has been flooded with emails and offers, and did not know what he had. But he seems to be an honest guy and says he will honer the deal. I got a real good vibe talking with him. So it looks like I will soon have a single MC3500 amp, which by the way according to him is in beautiful condition. So what the hell am I going to do with a single 350 watt mono amp? Chances of finding a mate are very rare. Might setup a mono system and give it a try. Any suggestions? I am sure I could flip it and do pretty well.

You could always have it do double duty as a center channel amp. Pick up a pair of Bogen MO200's (front left and right @ 200 Watts Each) and a pair of Bogen MO 100s (rear left and right @ 100 Watts each) and you have a toasty, overkill, surround sound system. It will warm your house and deliver sound to the entire neighborhood.

Play bass guitar through it. It's a dream amp for that.

You have a good point. I was just simply stating the age of the thread in case the person posting did not know.
