I paired McIntosh MC901 +Luxman C-10X pre-amp, and compared that combination with MC901 + McIntosh C12000 pre-amp. The output level of MC901 + Luxman C-10X is about one-half the output level of MC901+ C12000. Everything else in the system remained the same for the above two configurations. Can anybody explain this difference?

Volume controls are different, Lux to Mc.
Not uncommon for one unit needing way more twist on the volume to get a system to play same volume swapping only the preamp. As long as the Luxman can achieve full amp output and have a bit more volume control to go, it’s fine.
