McIntosh MR74 New & Old

I saw this MR74 listed for sale on Reverb. The look really got my attention as I have used newer end caps on a MR78 but never considered newer knobs on a tuner.
The knobs are more current McIntosh knobs.
The selector and volume knobs are from MA6600, the three knobs in middle will work also
from the MA6600. The tuning knob is from MC601.
The 3 knobs in the middle are not McIntosh knobs.
I already have the end caps, now just need to find a nice MR74.

Curious to hear others opinions.

I put newer Knobs on my MC 2505, MPI-4, MR-77 to match my new C-29 when it came out with the black centered knobs.

Don't remember where he got them from but they don't fully match. The smaller knobs on the MA6600 match up much better with the rest of the McIntosh knobs.

I *love* this. I have a nice MR-74 and it would be cool to have it "match" my C220, but I never quite got the motivation to source the end-caps and knobs. I've seen an MR-78 posted elsewhere here with newer end-caps to match the newer-style gear, but never something older. Very nice!

I think I need to do this...

I like the original look of the MR-74, I felt it fit in with my modern gear just fine. To me those end caps look a little off.

I like the looks of the original too, but for somebody trying to somewhat match components, it looks nice enough. Kind of like a prettier MR88.

I'd go the other way. I'd swap the knobs of the MA6200 to match the original knobs of my MR77.

I'll take the MR 74 all day long over the MR 77. Much better audio, and good to excellent RF prowess. My favorite McIntosh SS tuner unless you live in an RF jungle or need the MR 78 selectivity in super narrow.

That MR74 was originally mine with an updated cosmetic face. Of all the old school tuners (MR74, MR77 and MR78), I like the MR74 off the shelf without mods. Of course I live in an area that has good reception but this tuner is NEVER used as the MX136 has the MT-1 card. I had extra parts and went a little crazy since my kids said: "Dad, your old school stuff looks out of place !". Here is a picture with some explanation of where the knobs came from. I remember I had to do some dremmel surgery and Lowes oven knob inserts to get some of them to work. I think I have another MA6100 in the garage with updates as well.
