McIntosh mx121 firmware update stuck

My mx121 decided to stop playing nice with my panasonic display. I tried to do the reset function on pg 49 of my manual but that didn't work. I thought I should do a firmware update and that 6 minute process has been stuck for over an hour. I can't get it out of that state. Out of desparation I unplugged the device and plugged it back and and it went right back into that stuck firmware state.

Does anyone have recommendations?
