Mcintosh neighbor deal.

Got the kit and hooked it all up! the XR19's are nice. One issue with the MC2205 - the left channel is sometimes dead. The VU meters will be perfectly matched but without sound from the left. Tried different inputs, switched the speaker wires around ect..... basically the left channel is dead when cold (meters working). I can restore the left when I cycle the power switch off/on. Any ideas?

Dirty controls on the amplifier probably. Turn the left and right gain controls with the amplifier off back and forth a bunch of times in the short term.

See if that gets it working and not dropping out. Very nice combination of vintage Mac there! Congrats.

Post some pictures when you can. We are all voyuers :naughty:

Also - work the switches on the rear panel and the speaker On/Off switch to break up oxidation, etc.
The SPEAKERS switch seems to be the culprit. After cycling it on/off a few times both channels are working. For the rear switches do you mean the stereo/mono, pwr guard, and the .75/2.5v selectors?
I’ll clean the pots and switches with deoxit this weekend. Other threads indicate that the bottom panel needs to be removed for access. Also need to replace the lamps in the 7083 tuner.
The amp was too heavy for my crap ikea cabinet so I moved the gun safe out to support the amp until I can build something custom and sturdy.

Nice find and kudos to you for stepping up!

All can benefit from a proper cleaning.

If you can, get the XR-19's away from the side walls; they like to be flat against an open wall.

Might have paid a bit too much but very happy overall.
If you ever feel like you paid a bit too much, think of it as an opportunity cost. How often can someone run into deals like that? Mac gear will surely hold and even increase in value. Great setup.
