McIntosh P-166 (MC 225)

More rare than hens teeth, only the second I have seen. The only two rarer Mcintosh gear I have seen are the mixing board and their first speakers, made by bozak

Dave, did they make industrial versions of all of them - ie: MC 30, 40, 60, 75, 225, 240, 275...?

:lurk:

I really thought this was a fake. Thanks for posting it.

Roger Russell's website has a pretty comprehensive list of the industrial McIntosh amps. The P-166 is not listed but there is a mention of a MC-225 modified for AudioLab. Perhaps this is one of them?

The seller offering this P-166/MC-225 has been listing quite a few rare industrial series McIntosh amps - some made for Western Electric, etc. Some nice stuff. No affiliation.

Rare indeed! I came across an A120 once. I ended up selling it to a collector (15+ years ago) who is now selling it and a match on eBay as well! I just happened to notice it the other day.

Now, I've never seen the Bozak made mixer . . . anyone have a photo of that?

[EDIT: DOH! Same collector!]

Good Lord. Is there a McIntosh piece you didn't have? lol

*I just checked that seller's other items - I don't recall ever seeing so many different rarities being offered by a single seller (of course I haven't been in the Mc game very long now).

Doesn't seem to be much interest in the like-new C 8 or C 104.

All the other MI stuff he has is bit too rich for my blood...probably not cheap to service either - I have no idea...

Damac, Bozak made the speakers.

McIntosh made the mixing board.

McIntosh would do custom orders as well as military and export contracts, so they made a fair amount of odd ball gear that was then "badge engineered" by the contract company. I have a pair of MC40s that were contract purchased by Grason Stadler for their hearing testing labs.

I've had a few hundred (or more) pieces since 1989 or so. I found the A120 at a campground outside of Hot Springs, AR. It was used to power the myriad of horns throughout the park back in the early 1960s. Found that along with two Western Electric amps, one quite valuable.
