For reasons unknown, I have always assumed that Mc made their own power transformers like the in-house wound output autoformer.
After speaking to many rebuilders of early tube stuff and taking some of my stuff apart it has become apparent to me that most, if not all, power trannys are not Mc made but outsourced to other companies.
This has been confirmed on page 170 of the McIntosh book, where Sidney Corderman states:
"The audio transformers have always been built in-house; the power transformers we've always bought on the outside. They're much less critical, and also they have to go through UL approval...so we always use suppliers that are already certified."
I thought this was interesting, and brought this up because I have a Mc30 that has a Chicago power transformer that looks identical (on the wires) to the regular Mc one.
