McIntosh Remote

Can anyone recommend the best remote for use with McIntosh equipment? I'm looking for one single remote that I can program that will work with all equipment. I like the color video screens, but it's not a requirement.

I like the McIntosh remotes that I've received with my recent purchases, but I can't figure out if any single one of them will control the three pieces I currently have and the MR1000 or MR86 tuner that I'm hoping will come out some day.

Just about anything in the Harmony line is a learning remote... and they have gotten stellar reviews. You will have trouble finding codes for some of the other equipment (MDA1K, tuners, etc), but with the learning feature you can customize the remote on a specific input that works well for you.

I would look at that line, no need to spend more than a couple hundred to get what you need, but you may want the 1000 to get what you want :)
 
I have the Universal MX-950. It's pretty nice. Controls everything, looks nice, rechargeable cradle. Not to cheap.

I use the Philips Pronto TSU7500. I has a bright full color touch screen, can be customized in dozens of ways, easy to program individaul components and macros for one button turn on of multiple components. It even controls my lighting dimmers, one touch and lighting goes to theater mode level. Once set up, it is easy to operate, and recharges on it's base. It's great.

I use the Harmony Remote 659 for my entire system. The 659 came with my MX135 however you can purchase it separately. The unit goes for less than $100 and it even operates my C1000 trio. I control about 9 pieces of equipment including lights with the remote.

The next remote I plan to invest in will be the Harmony 1000 Advance Universal Remote.

Wonderful remote but must be programmed by dealer. Also, be ready to drop some cash, it ain't cheap. I went with the RF module as well, very nice. No more point and shoot, works outside etc. (zone 2 deck speakers). Hint... You can probably get your hands on the programing software package, if you're resourceful.

Leaning Towards Harmony 1000

I am trying to avoid using a dealer right now as my rapidly growing system is in flux, and I want to be able to program it myself. Based on this and your posts, I'm leaning toward the Harmony 1000 unless I get a last minute posted reply stating "you're off your rocker; by the far the best remote is the..."

I use the Harmony One, which I thought was pretty good until it started crashing one me 3-4 times a day. It can happen pressing any button, and when it does the remote shuts down, restarts, and reverts to the home screen, at which point you have to reselect whatever activity was running to get back to where you were... all in all this can take 30 seconds or so. Pretty annoying.

The macros ("Activities") are also somewhat limiting... there seems to be no way to create an activity without it powering on all the associated components on first, for instance. If a component is already on, this can actually turn it off. Again, annoying.

On the other hand, the software is super easy to use, works on both Mac and Windows (which is rare... most universal remotes are Windows only) and seems to recognize every component I've thrown at it, whether it be the VP1000 or the latest BluRay player...

I have been thinking of switching to the Universal MX-6000 when it is released... though I need to see it in person first.
