McIntosh service in NYC?

Just scored a MAC 1900 off ebay for around $250. Need to get it serviced/refurbished, and would like to avoid shipping it out. Anyone know of a good place to go in NYC?

Also looking for speaker suggestions to pair with the 1900. I've got NHT Ones currently sitting around, and Paradigm Titans matched with a Marantz 2230. I live in a Brooklyn railroad apartment, so nothing too big!

Well, you have McIntosh in Binghamton, NY and Audio Classics in Vestal, NY for repair options and Harvey Radio which is also a McIntosh dealer. Your unit is still supported by McIntosh and most all parts available. I like Small Advents with a MAC 1900, Dynaco A 25 speakers are superb, EPI 100, and Boston A40 and A70 all excel with this receiver. I own one myself and use it with Large Advents.

Take to Audio Classics in Vestal, a suburb of Binghamton - Mc Labs farms out classic unit repair to them anyway... Richard Modafieri who designed some Mc tuners is retired and does much of the repair work for AC. Can't beat that.

In nyc, the place to go is Technetron 36 E 29th St tel 212 725 8779. On the list at McIntosh as authorized and recommended by an insider at Mac headqtrs who will remain nameless because they are not supposed to express preferences. Used them once. Good job and handled my gear with care.

Sound-Smith in Peekskill

Authorized Mac repair. I beleive they pretty much do all Harvey's service work, or at least used to.

Hmmm. Interesting. Harvey's used to have their own service dept. at the rear of the store on E45th Street, but I haven't visited the location in ages.

I think Harvey's at 45th Street is gone. Used to be a favorite watering hole for me. If it were me, I would go with Audio Classics upstate. And, by the way...Wow! Congrats on your Mac1900! I wish you the best with it.

Hi everyone. Brand new to AK. Has anyone heard or tried Kim's electronic Corp. in Elmhurst NY? They appear to be a authorized service dealer according to the Mcintosh search results. I don't want to carry around my MCD201 in the subway. All that needs to be done is to get the bulbs changed.

Well it's tootlate to do any visiting now. They've closed that location months ago. I think the Stereo exchange on lower Broadway does Mc

Just no. I made the mistake of having them service my amp and preamp based on this recommendation. They are incredibly expensive and want to service things that don't need servicing. I could have rented a limo to drive me from NYC to Audio Classics to have both the amp and preamp serviced and it still would have been cheaper than what I was charged.

I know that I don't post much, but I do often turn to AudioKarma for advice. I'm thankful for the collective expertise. This was the one time that the advice failed.

expensive and thorough trumps cheap and not thorough in my book

guess we have different opinions on failed advice.
