McIntosh

I normally just read the forums but I came across this deal and was wondering how good it was. For a $1000.00 I can get a c-26 Preamp, MC 2505 Amp and a Mr 73 Tuner. Also in the deal is a Tandenberg 310 MKII tape deck and Electro Voice and Advent speakers. Which models they are I don't know. I know these all add up but my concern is the price of the McIntosh. I will buying them for collecting only (may use the preamp)- I already have a nice system with different components.

According to eBay, the MC2505 usually sells for $600 or more. The C26 in the $500 range. I see only a single MR 73 tuner sold for $375. Wood cabinets usually add to the price.

If they're in nice working and physical condition they're well worth the $1000. Local prices are usually less than eBay prices, but McIntosh gear is well revered and keeps its value. Even if you hate these, you can definitely get your money back at any time.

What exactly do you mean when you say "collecting only"? Are you going to just store them away with no intention of ever using them? If so, I would urge you to let someone else that would use them get them. If you have thoughts about using them later that is another matter. At any rate that seems like a very good price if they are in working condition.

I think that is a good deal and a hell of a deal if the ev speakers turn out to be patricians or anything over 3 feet tall. Good Deal....Though I hope you restore it and use em!

I will eventually use everything but time and space is limited at the moment. I will find out what EV speakers they are today.

Very good deal, even the "Tandenberg" is sweet. I sold a ton of those back in the day. If the EVs are nice, and from the rest of the system I bet they are, it's a major score.

If the seller was an original owner possibly the E-Vs are the real kicker. Back when these were sold the original Advent Loudspeakers were made. If no cabinets, a decent deal if in nice cosmetic condition and operational. If there are wood sleeves, a good deal as decent L-52s go for about $150 each and if the slant leg version, even more.

I understand this thought. I bought my Bozak's expecting to have a larger house next year. It sounds like a no-brainer. Go buy the stuff. And, don't be afraid to ask less, if the seller has started at a grand. He/she may be expecting to haggle a little and you could walk away paying $800-900, or they could say it's firm... and, at least you tried to save a bit extra, but still got a deal at $1000.

I think the speakers are EV Fours. Only saw the one speaker and I couldn't see any model name. The McIntosh units do not have the wooden sleeves but come in a custom cabinet he built that utilize the pan lock system. There is a minor scratch on the top of the preamp faceplate. Everything else looks good. For what I am getting based on everyone's responses, I am ok not haggling the price.

You cannot collect audio gear, is that what you are saying?

:saywhat:

$1000 is definitely a deal. Don't hesitate. Whatever you don't want you could definitely unload pretty quickly.

Sorry, this is unrelated but soundmotor, I just wanted to say that your avatar is awesome. Love The Residents! You should check out a group from my home town of Baltimore called Animal Collective. The Residents is one of their biggest influences. The Album Feels is brilliant.

Sorry again. Not trying to derail the topic. Go get them! The C-26 is a good pre and the 2505 is awesome!

I'm not saying that at all. You (and anyone else ) can do whatever you/they want. I'm saying that IMO it is better for the gear to be used by someone for its original purpose than to sit in storage collecting dust. I feel the same way about old cars/trucks. They were built to be driven, not tucked away never to be seen again.
