MCM Budget Woofers

I've used the 55-1190 woofers in a couple different boxes. The Qts is generally much higher than specified. They sound boomy and muddy in even the largest box. Really, the only good sound I've had with them is in an array of 6 in an open baffle. The bass quality is decent in that application. I would say that you are better off spending a little more money on something better. At one time I thought I could get decent performance by using multiples of these drivers, but I always ended up with a system that was a louder version of a single driver, with sound that wasn't really good.

Funny the 55-1190's come up in topic. For cheep 8" drivers they're better than one would expect. I stuck a pair in some Boston A60's just for grins and it was not so good but in a vented cabinet they do sound decent. Mind you there 15.00 each so one expectations weren't real high to start with. I am currently using a pair in Peavey HKS 8 powered studio monitors. They sound better than the original drivers but originals were kind of
tired.
