Hi, new to the board here. I am away from home handling the clearing out of my father's estate. And I came across a couple vintage audio pieces that brought back such fond memories of when I was a teenager. They are an MCS 3275 receiver and an MCS 683-6601 direct-drive turntable. My Dad used to like nice audio equipment, and just happened to work at JC Penney's in the Home Entertainment department. So got these at a great discount when new back in the 80s. But they've probably been sitting in a closet for decades.
I really loved the receiver, with all it's controls & switches. That was my first taste of graphic EQ and frequency ranges, which ended up helping me a lot as I got into live sound mixing later on.
But, unfortunately, it seems like the function control (FM/AM/PHONO 1/PHONO 2/AUX) is not 'functioning' at all. So it is 'stuck' on FM mode, with no way to select anything else except via the Tape 1 & 2 input selector. Sadly, this means no access to the phono preamps to really test the turntable (though it does appear to be working).
I dove in and disassembled the front a bit to go at it with some Deoxit. I did every single button & switch. And now, almost everything seems to be working really well and smooth. EXCEPT the function control, which still does nothing. That was the easiest control to get access to from the top, with a direct shot at an opening in the top of the control of some sort of gear. So I was definitely able to get some good Deoxit in there and worked that thing back & forth till my fingers were killing me.
- Is this something that might be worth fixing, and would I have to try to find a used function control to do so??
Ultimately, I don't really have space for this unfortunately, nor do I want to ship this beast all the way back home. So will probably need to sell it.
- Should I just sell as-is and hope some audiophile that knows how to work on these things is interested?
- Where's the best marketplace for it?
I don't even have any clue how much it's worth, especially with that function control not working. I know you can just use the Tape 1 & 2 ins, but would still need a phono preamp to use with the turntable.
