MCS 6700 Turntable... Dang!

I picked this turntable up at a yard sale a couple years ago, and it vanished into my "test pile". Well with all this corona-bologna going on, I've been finally burrowing through my piles. I got to test the MCS, and I must say, it's the best sounding turntable I have ever owned.

My daily driver table is a Techincs SL-D202. But playing them side-by-side, the MCS sounds SO much "cleaner". The details are sharper, the silent passages are more silent... Yeah, much could probably be attributed to different cartridges and differences in stylus wear. But for now, the SL-D202 has been unseated, lol.

I know a lot of MCS stuff has widely varying quality, but the 6700 turntable looks and feels very well built. And it sounds amazing.

I've seen that Technics "made it" and also that it's a "Technics Clone". I wonder what the story is. I also wonder what the original price was.

I have ab MCS 6603 that I also got in a junk pile. It is obviously a Technics SL-D2 and is a fine turntable. MCS is an overlooked brand. I hae a couple of their NEC made receivers that are great.

Panasonic made both the Technics turntables and some of the MCS models including the 6700. I had one and it was my best/main turntable for over a year. The 6700 is actually an upgrade over the very similar Technics SL-1950. The MCS model wasn't necessarily inferior to its Technics counterpart, there just had to be some differentiation. Obviously, appearance was a big differentiator, but in some cases like the MCS 6700, the MCS model was actually better built and/or had more features than the its Technics sibling.
