So I read somewhere that Frank McIntosh did not like the McIntosh receivers thinking they were too compromised.

I also notice that neither my MAC1500 nor my MAC1900 have the name "McIntosh" on their front panels. In fact, I don't see a major "McIntosh" label anywhere on the MAC1500. I do see "McIntosh" in small letters on the top of the MAC1900.

So my question is, are these two tidbits related? Did Frank McIntosh not want his name on these receivers because he did not think they met the McIntosh standard?

Just curious if anyone knows.

BTW, the receivers are very, very good, IMHO, though not as good sounding as the separates that I have.

If you had limited space or budget, Frank McIntosh preferred selling you a Tuner-Preamplifier and Power Amplfier. Mr. McIntosh also didn't like Integrated Amplfiers either. When Marantz introduced both, he was persuaded to offer both. McIntosh Audio Division was formed. Mr. McIntosh insisted receivers be called MAC. The rest was history. After Frank McIntosh lost control of the company, the MAC 4100 was released with full McIntosh branding on the front panel.

I have never read any material that sustantiated Frank McIntosh did not like McIntosh integrated amlifiers, but I suppose it could be true. I do know that today's MA6600 and MA7000 contain the same superior engineering, parts quality, and sound attributes as separates.
