While I realize that Memorial Day is a three-day weekend for many in the USA, while you're spending time with friends and family, please take a moment to remember those who gave their lives in combat on your behalf.

Consider attending one of the official Memorial Day ceremonies or services in your area. I just read that the Lansing, Michigan Memorial Day Parade was cancelled due to 'lack of interest.' A sad thing for a nation that claims to 'Support the Troops', don't you think?

LANSING - Officials in Michigan's capital city say they're cancelling an annual downtown Memorial Day parade because of declining interest.

The Lansing State Journal reports that instead of the parade Lansing will expand an annual ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery to include a formal procession.

There is a ceremony at the boat ramp across the street from my house every Memorial day. They lay a wreath in a little boat and send it out to sea. The local FD is there, and the guys from the VFW down the road largely put it on. Its a nice little ceremony, and it gets reasonable turnout for such a small town. Always makes me think of my granddad too. He was a WWII vet and POW. He came home, but he's been gone since 1995 now. I really wish I'd been smarter (or realized I was dumber) at 14 and spent more time talking to him. I'm sure there was a whole lot about a whole lot he could have told me.

I never served, but I'm married to a woman who DID, & continues to do so, as she is a PROUD RN at the local VA hospital. She's in Hospice/Palliative Care, she LOVES her "Guys"... I wouldn't have it any other way...
