Michael Jackson's Birthday, Fave Song Thread

That's just the thing, there was nothing normal about that family life, that family stopped being normal the day there dad Joe stopped working at the coal mine and started managing them full time, then all the fame came in and thats a life none of us (unless there's some celebrities here on this site) can relate to. That life is anything but normal at least by our definition of normal where we can go out and play with kids when we were young and go out in public without being bombarded by everyone. Then there's the endless rehearsals and then there's Joe, who by Michael's definition was the demon that walked the earth and is probably the reason why he changed his face, thought the way he did.

Unfortunately the drugs and the booze comes along with most entertainers and when there's also that pressure on them that's unfortunately the way they escape from the world there in so they can in there minds be normal.

Then there is the hidden fact that the Jackson family were Jehovah's Witnesses which put a twist on how they perceived the world. My mother was a JW and I was dragged to their Kingdom Hall, I saw the Jackson family from a distance at a big JW assembly at the Oakland A's Coliseum back in the early seventies.

Hidden fact?

No not hidden at all, that's a known fact, and has been for years.

JW's used to visit us quite often but we had no time! Finally I got fed up and the next time they visited I asked them in.After listening to them for a bit I said to them now it's my time.Took out an old Family Bible we had lying around and began to read to them but of course they wanted no part of it but I insisted seeing as I had listened to them it was now their turn to listen to us!Didn't go over too well but it worked as they never ever came back:)

My mom met MJ when he was married to Lisa Marie. She was at the Memphis Zoo with my dad and a couple grand kids. MJ (with entourage in tow) just walked up and started talking to her. They talked for a few minutes before the conversation got cut off when my dad needed help with the kids' ice cream cones that he just bought.

I have a hard time picking a favorite. As other have said, Billie Jean was a cultural phenomenon. It seemed like Beat It was released right behind it and they both were huge when I was a kid. I really like "The Way You Make Me Feel" these days because I heard it about a million times less than Billie Jean, but I like a lot of his music.

Funny you should say that because my parents are JW's as well and as a kid I remember going to an assembly at Dodger stadium and I met Janet she had some guards around her but she said hi to me, I remember thinking at that moment that it must be unfortunate that she can't just play with the other kids, she was constantly guarded and had no freedom. So yeah I know exactly what you mean on those views.

After reading the posts in this thread I'm gonna listen to a bunch of MJ albums this weekend.
If anyone gets a chance you should check out his Nerverland ranch on YouTube. You can take a your. Its amazing....

Hidden fact, as in it's not something people talk about.....hidden !

Ok we can split hairs... Growing up listening to him I was always aware of his ties to the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Now you want to know a real hidden fact.

Watch the original Billie Jean video. On the 3rd scream he does (or does not do) he turns and shushes you. A true fan would know he only screams 2x. Watch at 3:30 in the video.

now that is more of a hidden fact that is not really known.

Kind Regards,
John

Something which is public knowledge is difficult to equate with hidden.

Something which is public knowledge is difficult to equate with hidden.

There was a time when a great many people had certain religious views that prevented them from treating others equally. During that time it was hidden. In the eighties, when people found out, things had greatly changed for the better and the worse.

Don't know where it was hidden from? I live in Canada and knew about his Religious Inclination since The Jackson Five! Was it really hidden just because the majority of U didn't know about it or what?:)

Let me reword my previous proposal:

There is something about widespread public knowledge which doesn't equate with being hidden.

I grew up in the era of MJ and Thriller came out when I was in high school. That kind of music was far from what I was into at the time and probably because it was so ubiquitous and I got so sick of it that I really don't like the Thriller stuff. I have however heard some of the Jackson 5 stuff over the years that I was unaware of growing up and that music is really great. Though I don't own any of the stuff, the music on the albums that lead up to Thriller is really funky, great energetic stuff too... I like the Quincy Jones productions. It took my a long time to come around to the guy's talent but I understand it now. It's not like I seek out his music but if I hear certain tracks on on the radio, I won't change the station...

Jeffrey Daniels from Shalamar did it in 1982. So who really invented it? Fast forward to 2:00 in on this clip.

I’ve seen that before , Michael Jackson definitely didn’t invent the moonwalk he just brought it to the whole world that night. The moonwalk actually was done way before Jeffery Daniels , Bill Bailey did it first on TV.
