Michell Record Clamp

with this clamp, I was wondering if you use guys use the washer and put the record on top of that then the clamp on top.

I'm just wondering cause I was thinking of getting a new platter mat but it would seem with this clamp the record doesn't touch the mat and therefore I wouldn't need to upgrade my mat.

The record is supposed to contact the mat, once the clamp is applied.

Yup, I use the washer, and the record does rest on the mat.

cool thanks. Do you think at 70grams that it's to heavy for my PL-112D which has a spring suspension.

On my SL-1700Mk2 (which also has a sprung suspension) the issue isn't so much the mass of the clamp, as the ability for me to apply downward pressure, bottoming out the suspension, as I apply the clamp.
