Micro DD-7

Thanks Duania!

One of the most satisfying things about vintage audio is getting first hand experience with a brand or model of this or that has a great reputation amongst those relative few who have tried the "this or that" of repute.

There are a lot of DD-7s here in Japan. And they are amongst the best record players ever made here.

The best thing (of course after the fact that they are A class analog audio) is that they are above all affordable...on average less than 300 bucks USD on Yahoo Auction Japan.

Built like tanks, plays like heaven, and cheap.

Hard to beat.

Hard to beat in Japan. If you add in the shipping to the states it is more like $600. Add in a proper Hammond transformer ( I don't trust the cheapo's at all and have seen them do absolutely nothing but take up space and look ugly) and your looking at $800 easy. There are also not "tons of them" on aleado, maybe one or two a month tops.

At $800 here in the states you can put together a nice sp25 table that will sound just as good and be 120v to boot. On top of that the sp25 shares quite a few parts with the sl-1200 and is easy to repair if need be. Under $1k you can not beat technics here in the states. Technics sent allot of them to the U.S. back in the day, way more than any other brand, probably more than all of the other brands combined.

I do love micro. I do plan to buy a TT from aleado when the right TT comes up, but for it to be worth my while it has to be higher up the micro/victor/denon/yamaha totem pole. Something like a gt2000, DD-150, L-07d, tt101, dp-80. When you get to that level you really have something imo that will best a technics and still be worth it from a cost stand point. The dp-80 is probably the only one I listed you have a slim chance of buying for under $1k.

True re: cheap for Japan but not if shipping abroad is added

In the USA the DD-7 is called the DD-40 and are unfortunately rare.

When they come up for sale on eBay, well maintained DD-40s have sold for a bit over 1000 dollars.

So if a DD-7 is desired for whatever reason, getting one from Japan can still be a relative deal. ($800-ish as opposed to over $1000)

The GT-2000 is the dream machine I have my eyes on. Good thing my Sansui AU-X11 provides 2 phono inputs.
BTW: Micro designed the GT2000 for Yamaha. No wonder that it is so well regarded.

That's true, a $200 savings is a $200 savings, but for me I would need something a little higher up. I need a 33/45 rpm with a variable pitch cause of my dnb collection so I'm looking for a bl-91 with the upgraded platter or a tt101 and see if porter would build me a plinth and maybe have a nice arm for sale or put in an armboard for an arm I'm interested in.
