Micro Switches for Pioneer PL-71

I went ahead and ordered after giving them a call. Talked to two guys- first thought the different number might just be a date code, the second guy said it is most likely the Japanese and US numbers for the same part but that it should work the same.

I will give an update here when I receive and install them if anyone in the same boat wants to be sure they will work before ordering.
 
How did I find them?
Maybe luck (that I did something that made sense). I found them very quickly after googling matsushita am41009, that was after spending a long, long time googling other things...
 
Glad I found this thread.. my PL-71 is getting pretty bad about not holding speed.

If I leave it on a couple hours it does fine, but at first it's all over the place.

My microswitches arrived today. I put them in and still had the speed problem. I realized I had intended to clean the speed adjustment pots while I was waiting for the parts, so I did that next.

I have been testing it for about an hour now. 45 rpm works perfect, starts up dead on speed and stays there. 33 rpm is less than perfect.

Here is the strange thing, most of the time it starts a little slow, sometimes a little fast and occasionally right on. It is not off by as much as before. If it is not right on and I push the 33 button one or sometimes two and rarely three times, the speed will correct and lock in. I haven't yet seen it do the thing it used to do where it slows way down or drifts after about 5-10 minutes.

I feel like this is an improvement, but I don't feel I have fixed the problem.

Any more ideas?

Is recapping my next move?

Wow, sorry to hear that the switches didn't solve the problem. I didn't do my PL-71 yet. I just did a PL-55X last evening that had the same problem as our PL-71s do.

I used the switches that we purchased from MCM the first time and it fixed the speed variation problem on the 55X. I only replaced the speed switch. I did not replace the power switch.

I wouldn't be an authority on the recapping, but it makes sense that the speed would drift if the voltage is unstable. Hopefully someone else will help you out there.

When I eventually get around to putting the switch in my PL-71, I'll let you know.

Just thought, it doesn't make sense that 45 works and 33 doesn't. If it were the power supply, I would think that both speeds would be erratic.

Are you sure that you have good solder joints on the speed switch? Are all connections to the motor and speed controls good?

I would definitely check all connections in the unit.

I found a perfect fit, Zippy VA2-20S3-00D0-Z, in Europe sold by Conrad for just €2
 
I JUST got done replacing the speed control switch in my PL-55X and then found this thread.

I haven't played more than one side of an album so it remains to be seen how well its fixed.

Hi!
I have a PL-71 with a speed accuracy and drift problem. Looks like these Zippy VA2-20S3-00D0-Z are the best bet for the switch replacements...? How did fitting them pan-out?
Also, I notice some mention of recapping in this thread. I'm wondering has anyone tried this, and what effect it may have had?
All information gratefully received.
 
I have recapped everything, motor control board, power supply and installed the new switches.
It seems to work well, but occasional after a few days the speed is almost twice as high.
I'm afraid there's nothing else to do than rebuild the entire motor control board.

Especially as I imagine that's a disappointing and / or annoying outcome for your TT at this stage. All the best if you do decide to press on with the work.
Oddly mine has the opposite problem (runs too slow). I'm intending to have a poke around when I've got some time in August. Hopefully the switches and caps may help.

Exactly my thought. If 45 rpm is rock steady, then the motor and power supply should be fine.
