Microscopic photo of vinyl record grooves

Very cool, thank you! Now I'm wondering what the Grand Canyon would sound like if you dropped a giant stylus into it? :scratch2::D

I just realised I have no idea how a single stylus in a single groove could possibly create 2 channel stereo.

I guess it's the movement on both axes, vertical and horizontal?

Crazy, always blows my mind.

It is just awesome to watch isn't it? I saw it and immediately thought to share it here. The irony (for me) is I don't use a turntable.

Glad people like it.

I wonder if it could be done for a CD?

Here you are. The laser etched pits that make up the ones and zeros of digital data on a CD.

Great video. Amazing how dirty things look under extreme magnification. Watch at 1:38 and you can see the stylus pick up a bit of crud from the record. I also saw a few little bubbles in the vinyl. Wonder why it's blue? Is that an odd reflection from the light source or is it a colored record?

This really makes you appreciate how difficult it is for a stylus to "track" the groove appropriately. There were some very large sideways "peaks" that the needle had to negotiate.
