I've had somewhat bad luck with Extech meters, FWIW. Poor ergonomics, fading displays, lots of internal rework and tacked-on jumpers, etc.

If you can tolerate the manual ranging, I have a B&K 2707B that's does hFE, caps from 1pF to 20uF, resistance to 2G, true RMS, freq, <$100.

I realize this thread is kind of old, but I'm in the market for a new one. Any thoughts/experience on the Triplett meters?
 
I haven't used a Triplett but I see that RussellC wanted to know how I liked the Tenma. Turned out to be a great meter and I'm still using it. I wish the cap scale went higher (only goes to 20) but I may have to get an LCR meter anyhow.
 
My Tenma has worked great as well. Lot of go for the dough. See MCM electronics for good pricing, maybe PartsExpress as well?
 
Yes, that's actually a model up from mine, that one is a RMS model whereas mine was not. 74.99 is a cheap price for its features. Good pick.

Specs seem to indicate increased accuracy, check the reviews...there are only 2. Otherwise, save the money. I got the one under the one you are looking at. With any tool, to the extent possible, I like to follow the rule of "cry once and buy the best." Also, if in no hurry, MCM occasionally runs special sales where units are even cheaper than shown here. Sign up for their flyers and such if you haven't already.
 
Paying a little extra for good tools is investing, not spending....If in doubt, the feeling "shouldn't I have bought the one step up one" will not be there.

Would you or anyone else here be able to compare this Tenma model to something in the Fluke line--e.g., the 115, which can be had for about the same price?
