Miles Davis Blue Note 10" Re-issues Question

Hey AKers,

Hope this finds everyone well. Have a quick question. I've seen the 10" re-issues for Blue Note ("Young Man With A Horn", "Vol. 2" and "Vol. 3") at the record store and was just wondering if anyone out there had these and had any comments. I know he was in the midst of heroin addiction at this time so it might not be his best stuff, but I'd like to know about the sound quality of these pressings. The last two are part of the Blue Note 75th Anniversary series. I have the 2014 RSD Black Friday 10" release of "Enigma" and think it sounds quite good. Thanks in advance for your comments!

I can't comment on the sound quality of those specific re-issues, but the music on the Blue Notes is very, very good; while it may not be quite as good as his very best stuff, I've listened to those Blue Notes many, many times. They're good. There's lots of terrific stuff: Dear Old Stockholm, Yesterdays, Donna, Woody'n You, Weirdo (really, Sid's Ahead), Well You Needn't, It Never Entered My Mind, etc.. Many are numbers he recorded again later, but they have a different feel on these albums. In short, I really doubt you'd find the music itself lacking.

Thanks johnebravo! No doubt he is very talented. I have a lot of his Prestige (my favorite years) and Columbia stuff, but nothing from his Blue Note years (except the "Enigma 10").

I was just thinking since the 75th Anniversary re-issues come with mixed reviews, I was wondering if they sound decent. At $20 a pop, I don't want to throw away that kind of money. Fortunately, the two re-issues I do have sound really good.
