MINI DS212 Oscilloscope

Would the MINI DS212 oscilloscope (Youtube video review) work well with amplifier/receiver repair applications? I think the most attractive part of it is that it is very small and would hopefully work well for people who don't have a lot of space to work in. It also has a built-in signal generator: 10Hz - 20KHz. That part seems like it wouldn't work well for FM adjustments.

The scope JMiP is referencing is a good bit more capable than the one in the other thread. In a word - yes - it would suffice for audio signal tracing. It's not much good for any tuner work - AM or FM. Memory depth is weak and there is no external trigger. But you still should be able to trace a 1kHz sinewave input signal through a preamp/amp section. Do note the max input voltage of 40 volts.

It will be cumbersome and slow to operate due to its lack of controls. Take a look at this -

It's the same thing and there is a user manual you can download. Peruse that to get a feel for the operation of the device. As you know, nothing beats a full size for ease of use.

I can't imagine trying to use a scope with a 2.8" screen, my eyes hurt just thinking about it!

Something like the Hantek DSO5072P would be a much better choice if you're looking for a new scope on a budget. At least it takes regular probes and has a readable screen; well worth the extra $100.

Beat your record! I went a minute and a half before I surmized that it was never going to get any better. I saw a recycled iPhone transformed into a display unit, I think.

A decent used old 'scope would probably be actually useful by comparison.
 
my next scope upgrade will probably be one with OSD measurements and movable markers like that. Mighty handy vs having to do the math manually.

One option to consider, if you have space, is a USB scope. Hantek, yet another Chinese brand, offers 200MHz USB scopes in the near-$200 range. It would cover the bases pretty well.
