Mini Goodmans?

Got these little guys at a church rummage and wasn't expecting much. The funky grill cloths were stapled through cardboard grills to the face of the speaker, so it was a little tricky getting them off. Single driver in a tiny sealed box, pretty beat up. Hooked them up to my Miniwatt, and hey, not bad! No highs and no lows, but the middle sounded pretty good. Anyone know about Elite/Goodmans? Budget line of the Goodmans speakers?

Don't know anything about them but picked the same speaker from Goodwill a few years ago. Remember them sounding better than I expected they would.

I bought a pair of these when I was in the Air Force in Biloxi in '68 or '69. They astounded me with what they could do.

An ex girlfriend took them when she left me in the 70's and I miss them greatly.

The speakers, not the girl.

Is that the original driver in there? Looks like it was replaced judging by the dark outer circle around it. That driver looks like a Foster, or similar.

When I pried off the grills, didn't look like anyone had been in there before, but who's to say? What do the original drivers look like?

They could be original. Hard to find anything on the WWW for that model. Just looks like a round frame driver was in there and later replaced.

Post a picture of the back of the driver.

Original, exactly like mine except for the velcro I added for grills.

Yeah, they seemed like late '60's to me. British, acoustic-suspension, rubber-coated cloth surrounds, etc. Figured it was just one of the later Goodmans bookshelfers from that period. Still have yet to hear of a single bad-sounding Goodmans (I mean, with a name like Smuckers... ).

I also had some once. Grills were nailed on if I remember right. Nice little full range speakers. I had a pair of minimus 7s and so I let the Goodmans go. A guy in Canada wanted, and got them.

If I found those cheap I would seriously consider building a TL.

I think they would make a nice TL speaker but hate to take take them apart. Here is a picture of my DIY tqwt in front of my DQ10s. I waffle between 200 watts on the DQ10s and tubes with single drivers.
