Mini Maggie Console

I dunno how I missed a Magnavox thread, but that little guy is super cool !

btw, date code on the speaker says 51st week of 1957 . . .

What do I have??? Mag 51-04ish

Can you tell me what i have? This was my great Uncles. The Radio still plays and the turn table turns at all speeds. No needle though. I am just trying to understand what I have. It looks like a Magnavox 51-04 type cabinet. My uncle did paint it. I do have a matching dry bar, I think it was just a like size cabinet he used with it.

eeekkkkk i love funky 50's furniture and items but that is something I would have to burn, the paint looks original unless your uncle did a surper job at it, i see all the lettering is readable and there is paint inside the cabinet. I can't tell you more about it unfortunately, it does have a stereo 6v6 amp in it.
 
Not to resurrect an old thread, but that is not a stereo amplifier. It is the (model unknown at the moment) PPP 6V6 mono amplifier.

oops guess your right, all those 6v6's confused me, I do only see one output tranny and one driver tube.

fix it up! check that rectifier tube, looks kinda hazy in the pic.

Looks like either a '56 or '57 Magnasonic. The amp chassis in the photo you posted is not a 51-XX chassis as they are all-in-one units. However, it is possible (and I believe likely) that there is a 51-XX chassis in the upper part of the console. It may be hard to get at (or even see) to confirm. You would need to pull it out of the cabinet to be able to see the ink stamped chassis number. It would be something like "51-01-AA". You might also want to check the amp from your photo for a similar stamp.

There isn't a balance control or separate volume knob to indicate that this console was intended for stereo use with a "companion" speaker but you may, indeed, have a second channel as part of the tuner/preamp. And the amp in your picture looks like one of Magnavox's better ones. That output transformer is very nice for a Magnavox!

I'm not sure if those brass pulls are original. They may have been added by your Great Uncle. He did an excellent job painting it, by the way. That color was probably very popular when he chose it and is certainly in keeping with the console's period look. I'd keep it as is. Here's an ad from 1956 (without the brasses):

The tubes are dusty once i cleaned them they look new. I do not know much about this technology since I am 35 that was before my time. The FM won't tune in. The AM radio works great, my 12 year old son and I sat an listened to the Chicago Cubs Sunday just to reminisce about my great uncle who past this time last year. Is there any value in it? Can you still get needles for the turn table? It does have an AUX port on the tuner.
