MiniDSP - anyone have feedback on them?

I've been thinking about picking up an EQ and experimenting with room "correction". REW looks like a great piece of ( free!) software, and it now has the ability to program miniDSP boxes:

I had never heard of miniDSP until a few days ago. Their products look very interesting ... anyone ever use one? I'm just looking for general feedback before purchasing one of their 2x4 kits.

Thanks!

i bought a minidsp to serve as a crossover between my quads and dipole woofers.
havent played a whole lot with the eq yet, but its really versatile, and the crossover works great :thmbsp:

A friend of mine has one and really thinks its the bee knees. He said for the price, it is great.

Thanks for the feedback guys! The price is fantastic, and they look super versatile. If at any point I decide to add a sub, I could use the miniDSP to integrate it in *and* provide general room EQ. Lots of options.

I have one sitting right beside a 4 channel tripath amp ready to be programmed up...hopefully this weekend :)

Looks like it could be as much fun as my Behringer!!

Cheers!!

I was looking more into these earlier Today. Very sweet looking deal. Seriously thinking of getting one and a 4 to 6 channel amp to experiment with fully active. I was under the Impression that it was another $10 for the flash software plugin.:dunno:

Looks like a perfect solution for subs. I was curious if the mixer features will allow you to sum to one output?

I don't see a digital input on the board. That's too bad, because I'd like to play around with one, but I have to have a Toslink input.

I suppose I could put it between my Denon receiver acting as a preamp, and my amplifier, but I'd rather use it instead of the Denon rather than with it.

I will add that if you are tri-amping, it might be just as cost effective to find a used Behringer 2496 three way as you would need two of the MiniDPSs to tri-amp.

the minidigi is an add-on board to the regular minidsp, that allows digital input.
its also possible to add a volume pot to the minidsp, if you want to use it as a pre-amp.

Here is how my system is setup. The main source is a computer, the sound cards digital Toslink output connects to a Denon AVR-2802's digital input, acting as a preamp which feeds an AudioSource Amp Three which runs the mains, and I have a powered sub. I'd like more crossover options than the Denon has, and I really wouldn't need the Denon if I had a crossover and digital input as I can control the volume and any eq from the computer. Basically I have two preamps, the sound card and the Denon, but wouldn't mind replacing the Denon with that minidsp, only small issue is I also have two CD players connected to the Denon also, and I wouldn't have a connection for those. I could just use the computers DVD ROM I guess.

but will it sound any good?
isn't it essentially just a very cheap dac?

Yes, it's just a DAC, exactly what I need to be able to use a minidsp board since I need a digital input, which the minidsp does not have.

I'm not one that believes there are huge differences between DAC's, but that doesn't guarantee that it doesn't sound bad. I wouldn't expect it to though.
