minimus 7, 77, 11, 12, etc.... thread

I'd like to get some insight into the difference between these models, mostly dimensions, drivers used, frequency response.

Please post the info you may have, I'm putting a system together and would like to make the best choice from these.

As far as i know, minimus 7=7W(wood)=77(ported, size same?)
i suspect minimus 11=minimus 12? woofers seem different (dimensions?)

I have three pairs of Minimus 7W's, two pairs of Minimus 7's, and one pair of Minimus 3.5's.

One pair of the 7W's are connected to the garage system, one pair to the game room system, and one pair to the workout room system (all three systems have other speakers also).

One pair of the 7's are connected to the garage system, and one pair I used as the surround speakers for the master bedroom system.

The 3.5's I use as the surround speakers for my office system.

Although I know there shouldn't be much difference, I find that the Minimus 7W's sound better (to my ears) than the Minimus 7's.

I also like the looks of the Minimus 7W's oiled walnut wood better than the black Minimus 7's. So does Nipper...

That happened to me, too. They were nice as back deck speakers, weren't they?
Wow, me too. Mine were installed on the wheel wells of our Escort Wagon. Perfect size and output for that vehicle. My brother borrowed the car for a trip to Mexico, had a blow out and abandoned the car their. How much do I believe of that story? Not much. Either way I lost a car with nice speakers. And that car was the most reliable car we owned next to our Outback. His status we won't discuss.

Yeah, I think I understand. Having been to Mexico, though, I would never drive a car there. Most US insurance won't cover US drivers inside Mexico for a good reason. You think drivers are bad here, OMG. Sorry to hear about your speaker (and car) loss.

That's an original, first issue Minimus 7, catalog no. 40-2030 introduced in the '78 catalog and ran through '79. It was replaced in '80 with the 40-2030A which made a few changes, the most noticeable being:

1) Round terminal cups with screw terminals were replaced by rectangular terminal ports and spring terminals.

2) The built in wall hanger on back was moved to a lower position.

3) Threaded holes were added at the corners in the rear for optional "mobile brackets" (cat no. 40-2031, also introduced in '80).

Also, the original metal grilles were made of aluminum. They were made of steel a bit later on, though early black and silver Minimus 7's still had aluminum grilles even after the original model.

Your 40-2030 was manufactured in August of 1977 by the way. That makes it a first year production. Nice find!
Holy S***.. I wish I got the pair..but there was only one :\

:D I love it anyways

I also liked the wood version than metal version.

11's are much bigger than 7's but 12's are little bit bigger than 11's and I think tweeter is the same but different mid woofer.
12's look exactly like 11's but little bigger.

12 measures 7" Wide x 10-1/2" Tall x 6-1/4" Deep; 8 lbs each.

Here are Minimus 7 and 12's:
