They play fine, and don't complain, even far up the volume scale.

Considering ordering those nice pre-built crossovers off that site. Apparently the guy has early Parkinsons, might not always be available.

If you don't hear a problem...I wouldn't sweat it. It is possible that the travel limits have enough tolerance for the slight change.

I have installed 5 sets of upgraded pre-built crossovers and they are a good improvement. However, Zilch's & Pete B's (though more work) is the best I have heard by a good margin.

Reviving this thread yet again.

Since I'm not trying to squeeze every last ounce of detail on a 15 dollar yard sale speaker, I just wish to know the value of the cap. Slap a poly in there, and call it good is the plan.

Is it 4.7?

I just re-capped my 77's last month. It was a 4.7uf cap in mine.
 
Is removing the grill on these as simple as prying off? I'm thinking that must be it, but didn't want further damage a grill that has been knocked in and is now touching the woofer surround.

EDIT: So, yes, they do just pry off - I figured I'd go for it. And... the grill dent just popped back out! Win, win.

Time to revive this thread! I just re-foamed my 77's. The foam had totally disintegrated... I mean GONE! I got the foam (or whatever it is) on ebay for $4 plus 4$ shipping. They were specifically marketed for the 77's. I cut the dome covers and shimmed. I like this way because it the paper cone holds it's position wherever you put it so I can keep pressure on the foam while the glue is drying. I used Aleen's clear gel tacky glue. I think it dries a little too quick, but it stays in position and doesn't run so I think overall it was good advise that I got. I am very pleased with the results. I also sparingly used a heat gun. It made centering the foam easy and I think quickened the drying process. I was careful not to overheat the foam.
