Minimus 7W, loving them.

My ears are bleeding
Finally hooked these up. Most of my equipment had been packed in storage till I bought my home, my last home, I hope. Not everything is unpacked, but some stuff is, including the (in)Famous Minimus 7W speakers. I decided to go the subwoofer route, happily. Connected to my Kenwood KA-3500 (was my first real hi-fi system, moving out of my parents home after graduation from HS). The Kenny is not the one I originally purchased years ago, but acquired in the last year at a thrift store. Deoxit brought it to full function and sounding awesome.

Absolutely loving them. There are tunes/music that they don't do well, but that's typical of most speakers. What surprised me, pleasantly, is they sound so much better, with some Jazz and Blues recordings, than my friends A7's (which have been thru many itterations of drivers and crossovers, except the woofers which have always been 416's). The A7's sound veiled, muffled, like they're playing behind curtains.

I believe the sub is configured for 120hz and below, possibly lower, so the 7's are doing all the rest of the work.

Setup in my bedroom, which is quite fitting, not taking up space and not a glaring standout. And the wood cabinets go well with my real wood dresser and matching nightstands. They're positioned on the nightstands, toed in just enough for a nice modest soundstage.

I believe you. I‘ve had the same setup, (Minimus + sub) and it was surprisingly good! It sounded as good/better than the Klipsch floorstanders I had at the time, depending on the music genre.

I have 2 pair of Minimus 7's. One pair with the matching stands, the 2'nd pair with the matching wall brackets.

Most importantly I have the matching "System seven" reciever. These had a switchable EQ calibrated specifically for the Minimus 7/7W speakers.

On there own without the reciever's EQ or at least tone control adjustments, The Minimus 7's are no match to my 12" tall Energy Connoisseur C1 bookshelf speakers (w/5,5" mid-bass driver), as expected.

What was unexpected was when I cranked up the bass and cut the treble back on my old Onkyo AVR, They sounded surprisingly close to the Energy's to reasonable SPL's. And with the matching reciever's EQ activated in my bedroom, They don't need a sub when placed in a corner to make them sound like a much larger speaker, or a small speaker with a sub.

They might also make fine near field monitors for a desktop with proper tone controls, or EQ adjustments from a computer sound card.

First time I ever heard a set was a childhood friend who had them along with a Teac receiver and EQ (80's). The output was impressive, even to my amateur ears. Just makes me miss Radio Shack even more.

did not expect a Mini-7W appreciation thread!

I have three pair. Two are the main speakers in the bedroom, two are part of the kitchen system. I don't need to be convinced, they make a lot of material, and different sources, sound wonderful, if your room is not massive. I stream local 320K mp3s to an FM PLL transmitter, listen to it on a vintage tuner in the bedroom. Sound is incredibly engaging.

They, and all the others designed that way from back in the day, punch far above their weight and, if not defective, sound great in just about any use I have heard them. I am using a pair of Optimus Minis as my desk speakers run off my main amp, Mac MA2600. I like them and often just use them instead of switching to my Polks in the living room.
