Mirage M3si’s - amp discussion 2020

Hi everyone,

New member here. I’m currently in the process of putting together my first audiophile stereo system. My father had a set of m5si’s in college and loved them - I did some research and just picked up a pair of used Mirage M3si’s. From what I’ve read they should sound great with all different music types and give the hard to replicate sense of “big sound”. Now all I need is an amp / preamp to drive them...

They are notable for being difficult to drive. They have a 6 ohm impedance and 83db sensitivity. Recommended power is 100-300 wpc. I’ve heard everything ranging from “any respectable solid state amp can drive them” to “mine sounded by far the best with 400watt class d monoblocks”. The amps I’m considering are the following:
  • New Adcom GFA-565se power amp. Not much info online about adcom’s new stuff, but seems like a good deal. I think this amp would do 300wpc into 6 ohms. I would need to come up with a preamp / dac pairing.
  • New peachtree nova300. I know people tend to bash class D amps, but there are some pretty rave reviews about this thing. A little over 300wpc into 6ohm. I’ve heard the mirages love class d power.
  • Luxman L-505uxii integrated amp. This is the only amp I have actually heard. A local audio store has a floor model for a good deal. Played b and w 606 towers no problem and sounded amazing. My only concern is that it only puts out ~125 wpc and is the most expensive option.
Obviously these are three very different amps. It seems the Luxman is the best sounding amp, but is there enough power there for such huge speakers? Like everyone always says, listening to them all would certainly be the best but doesn’t seem to be possible. Let me know your thoughts / other options you might consider.
Thanks!

How large is the room you will be running them in? When I used to sell these we got great results from a number of amps. I think they sound best with tube amps, but SS amps are great with them also. As far as power I have driven them as little as 75 SS watts with great success. A lot will depend on your budget and other components.
