Missing PL-41 Tonearm Nut

The nut that was made based on my estimates arrived late this week and fit pretty snuggly. I think it is quite lighter than the original, but not too bothered by it. Appreciate all the help!

If you have access to a machinist, i would suggest to just remove the tonearm and make him/her create a cut for mounting an upgraded tonearm, like a SME, or perhaps a good model Rega, Jelco, etc etc. The Pioneer tonearm is good, but the PL-41 can be elevated even higher. I have a SME 3009 II mounted on mine.

What is your opinion on the Pioneer PA-1000? I think it is a drop in fit, and I am having trouble finding other for sale that might be close to the specs of the original tonearm. My budget is around $500, but willing to stretch it to around $700.

I don’t think the stock arm is bad at all. It’s pretty high mass so it’s not the best match for most cartridges, which is a shame. Great with a Denon 103.

Yeah, I've heard great things about it but think the Pioneer PA-1000 is a step or two above. Just ordered it from samurai audio in japan and its matching headshell. Hoping to pair it with the Nagaoka MP-200H.

I thought of replacing my tonearm when I first got my 41, I mean hey, it doesn’t even have anti skate!
But after listening , I thought that a bad rabbit hole to go down.
It’s a well made jelco, sounds great with stock cartridge and I have lots of oem styli .
The tonearm is a bit microphonic which gives a nice air to music.
Btw, the published stereo spec for the stock plc9 was 29db, pretty good even by todays standards .

Unfortunately it didn't come with the stock cart. It was paired with a moderate compliance Empire 2000 E/II, which (though I haven't done the calculations for) I think the tonearm might be too heavy for. At least with the PA-1000 I can keep all of my current carts with the potential for more. I'll audition both and see which one I like the most. Appreciate you following this thread

It looks like I missed out on this post in the early stages. I have the nut in the end of the tone arm shaft but the black plastic part is gone from my tone arm. I am actively searching Ebay. My main issue is the counterweight slips right off the end. I see two set screws on the counterweight but they dont seem to tighten it to the shaft. They are not drilled all the way through the counterweight to where they would engage the shaft. Am I missing something? Other than the black dial that is.
