Mixed feelings ...

Just picked up 10 new CDs from artists such as The Coryells, Otis Taylor, Tracy Nelson, Randy Weston, Donald Byrd, John Renbourn, Blackmore's Night and others for just over $80 ...

The bad news is it is near the end of the going-out-of-business sale of the last store in town that carries anything remotely like this stuff (and the next-to-last independent music store, the other one caters strictly to college-student tastes). That's two down this summer, after losing a couple of others in recent years. Old news, I know, but a sad day for Arboria, where I've gone for 21 years now, starting when they were in a dungeon-like little basement space ...

I feel for you Rich. I still enjoy browsing bins even if just to look at the cover
art.

If only I could remember to forget my wallet.

I feel your pain. I live out in farm country with the only music outlet being Wal-Mart. I find most of mine at thrift shops, garage sales and the occasional Epay find.

Yeah, it's sad to see these little independent shops closing up, in recent years they where the places where I bought most of my music - especially vinyl and SACD's.

The music and niche formats these guys catered to are becoming the domain of the on-line retailers now. I guess that's OK as one retailer serving many locations can have a much broader product offering but I really miss being able to spend a few hours browsing and instantly going home with what I want.

Back Alley Discs is closing in Sept after 13 yrs.man do I have memories from that place.Every Saturday,Chas and a bunch of us would get together and shoot the breeze. the only good news is that anything I traded in,he is selling back to me for $5.

I don't know where I'll find my fix for roots music now! I'll have to order everything online.

Rich - that is a bummer mate. Sorry.

Alan - it's a Godsend in disguise. It's time to get out of the optics business, and buy/operate Back Alley. Internet marketing, with a little business here from AK.

Sounds like a plan. I might even be willing to become a minority investor.
