MJE15032G out of stock, any good alternatives?

I must have missed something - - -

How can a SMD dissipate as much heat as a typical TO-220 or TO-3p transistor that it is replacing?
it typically doesn't do .or is dealt with by the amount of copper its soldered to . i am having an ongoing battle with my washing machine with triacs mounted on the board .

I hope that it is a battle you can win. Remember that those things fight dirty - - -
yes they do . i wouldnt mind so much but i rarely use it ..seems about every third time another triac goes bad .either blown up or partially shorted .

I think you will find these might be the last runs they are doing for these transistors......I think its time to start stocking up....I know I've been ordering a lot more than I need so I always have some...
Sorry but I think that you are misleading some folks here because if they were to go end of life they certainly would announce as such on the web page and give lots of notice for last time buys. Literally 1000's of designs use these parts, so much so that being out of stock actually shows that many are still being used at such a rate that they can not keep stock, which is a good thing. Our little niche of audio repair is a drop in the bucket compared to large manufacturers who use these parts.

Of course they can not, people make all kinds of inaccurate statements and have very little actual design and manufacturing experience to base their opinion on. The TO-220 package will be around for ever, it is a industry standard that everyone uses. If a die gets hot, it has to have a way to remove the heat or it will self destruct, basic physics.

Beef up that triac, I use those 40A ones in the metal stud package. Some use back to back scr's as an alternative to a triac.

i cant see a problem using relays if it comes to that . another machine would be easier apart from its location .

It cant...its not necessarily SMD they are moving to, I am seeing a lot of TO247's in this role these days, in switch mode supplies, different designs and ways of doing things.....MOSFETS in different packages replacing Class AB amps and things like that...

Poor choice of words on my part, I should have been a little more specific, I am finding in the gear i work on, that I am seeing different supply designs and certainly are not seeing anything like the amount of TO220's being used as regs as in previous years...
What I should have said, is, I wonder if this is a sign that they are winding production down? We never used to have any issues ordering them in past, I have a bunch on back order.....Never used to be like that....

For drivers transistors, there also is 2sc4793 (230V complement 2sa1837),
2sc5171 (180V complement 2sa1930)
2sc4382 (180V complement 2sa1668A TO-220F package)
2sc4883a (180V complement 2sa1859A TO-220F package)
At last glance, they were all in stock at Digikey, and most are still considered current.
The TO-220F package is the insulated version of the TO-220 - no insulator required, but the heat transfer is not quite as good.

Yes I have to agree that SMPS are a lot more common than linear type PS in this day and age due to efficiency/size/cost benefits and requirements.
It really is hard to say what the long term thinking of Onsemi is, esp after they acquired Fairchild and have parts that are similar in specs.

I think it would be fair to say, as long as they're selling them in enough numbers, they'll keep making them...Yeah, Fairchild get overlooked for those style of packages a lot, I must admit I don't always think to look at them for an alternative....

Mouser, Digikey, Newark, Farnell, RS Components and similar respectable companies - i.e. the usual suspects.

If they don't have any, possible substitutes have been discussed in this thread, also see my post #3

Thank you. I checked all. RS shows additional inventory can ship on 10 days. I asked if this is true for 5 items.
Arrow shows as it is in stock, I bought buy they cancelled my order saying it is out of stock. But still it seem in stock in their and onsemi's webpage.

I read the whole topic as well as your suggestion but I have some 33, so I need 32.

Can you go down to 30 or 28? Check voltage.
