MM or MC Setting

In my quest for another cartridge I found the specs on the AT440MLa a mite confusing. Not that 1mv makes a lot of difference but some places show the output as 4mV and others 5mV. Either way that's a lot more than I expected from a MC cartridge. I thought the criteria of a MC cartridge was that the output was <1.0mV and this one is way more than that. The impedance is listed also as 47K.

I have an Emotiva XPS-1 and not sure if you'd use the MC or MM settings since this is a MC cartridge but the specs are more like a MM cartridge.

Sounds like it is a high output MC and you can use the MM setting on the XPS-1.

Its moving magnet. MM setting.

Use the MM setting, you won't need the step up the MC input provides.

Well because the AT440MLA is not an MC cart. It's an MM cart.

You're right. I've been looking at too many cartridges. I thought it odd to put out that much voltage in that the 10x5 only has an output of 2.5mV and it's a HOMC cartridge.

The 440 is a moving magnet.

It will hum like nobody's business on the MC setting. I accidentally did this once with a Grado Gold and the XPS-1.
