Model 19 Lights

Have a chance to pick up a model 19. Don't have the chance to see it in person just yet but seller says the scope works but is dim.

Question - Not being aware of the lighting set-up in these, is it possible that there is an auxillary lamp at that end of the faceplate that would make it appear dim?

This one has the wood case too and while that is rough, the price is right on this one.

Update - The seller seems to think that the scope has a backlit lighting source. Sounds like this wouldn't be the case. Would greatly appreciate hearing from any Model 19 owners.

Fellow Model 19 owner here.

The scope is basicly a 1" TV. If there were an aux lite, it would not help, if anything it would make it dimmer, like having your TV on in a dark room at night as opposed to daytime with all the drapes/curtains open: darker surrounding is better.

On several of my scope Marantz tuners there is an intensity adjustment (on the exterior) to brighten or darken the display, not so on the 19. I think there is an adjustment inside after you open it up but it is not marked so be careful what you go adjusting. A tech may be able to make it brighter if it's not already turned up to full (meaning it's on its last leg).

If you can have it adjusted, try to go with the dimmest "you" like. The brighter it is the less it will last.

Exactly how I was thinking but needed to hear from someone who had one. I had a Direct Drive TT that wasn't keeping speed and once I adjusted the VS pot.....viola!

Not sure if it will be that simple this go 'round but I might pay to see if it does or not.
