Modern amp equivalent to a Sansui AU-719

Can anyone, based on experience, comment on what the starting point in modern gear (brand model) would be in order to compare to the sound quality of a re-capped/restored AU-719?

I"m afraid there isn"t any.
Today"s amps are , paper thin , sound and make wise.

A descent amp , would be TEAC AI 2000. Not quite cheap though.Check out the series ai 1000, 2000, 3000.

I have liked most Denon amps I have had, but I bet the PMA-A100 sounds fabulous.

Do they still make it?

Oh well, I got a mint AU-719 with unused handles, manual, and box for a fraction of the cost of the Denon.

I just can't justify spending $1500 on something I have not heard in my system.

Just de-oxed the pots and switches of my Sansui AU 919 this evening. Sounds better than ever. I doubt these modern amps sound any better.

The Denon PMA-770 sounds fantastic. No reason for it, but it just does.

I recently went amplifier shopping with a friend. I really liked the amps Cambridge Audio makes, and I would say the sound is comparable to the AU-719. I have not seen it with the cover off so I couldn't say if the build quality is as good or better, but that's not what you asked anyway. If I were buying on the basis of sound (I would) then I would be very happy with any of the Cambridge amps I heard. Can't remember the model number but the price was around $1500.

So I guess the consensus is that you need to spend at least $ 1,500+. Not bad for a 34 year old amp.

I recently went into a high end stereo store because I saw a turntable in the window,chatting with the salesman I was surprised to see there were no bass and treble knobs on the current models. I was informed they were removed because they ruined the music...lol the big step in sound I saw was in speakers...he showed me a set I fell in love with but will probably never own. they were $3500 a set. I had him place a record on the turntable , It couldn't hold a candle to my sansui...I almost feel like bringing my au-x711 to his shop to show him what sound quality I am use to

I'd tend to agree.The Sansui AU-919 is something really special.I read (and that was going back a few years),you'd have to spend at least £2,000.00 (just over 3,000.00 USD),to try to find something that would rival the Sansui AU-919.

Altho the 919 will cost you £2000 if you end up with one like mine ! Unless it burns y house down as well !

As you said it is Un used, I assume it is in a very MINT condition.

The Denon is nowhere near as reliable long term nor as fine. The AU 719 was a fine move in my book. I love Sansuis.

Recently I purchased Yamaha A-S500. Not that I am in need of another amp, only to feed my curiosity. I wanted to have a modern amp to hear what they sounds like. I know it's an entry level amp. Also I must admit, internally build quality is nice. After listening for two weeks, sold it in a heartbeat. It didnt reveal lively sound of my lovely Sansui 661, nor it justify advertising claims.
