I was curious as to what kind of Receivers or Preamps AudioKarma members prefer and own.

Vintage 50s-80's. Pure (Analog)

Digital Era 90's-present (Optical, Coax, HDMI) Internal Dac. Will accept analog inputs.

If you have Both please choose as if you can only keep one.

Please feel free to comment as to why you chose Analog or Digital. I chose Digital because I prefer to control all the action from my chair and like the option of surround sound for movies. Tuff choice though.

I only like good equipment and the best of the best and some times age doesn't matter.
That said I like to have a remote on my main system, I like it to work every time I turn it on. So that tends to be newer equipment.

I didn't vote because you don't have a spot for me
 
I have both, but I guess if I was forced to pick one or the other
it would be vintage. All my remotes either don't work or were not
with the gear when I bought it, so I cant miss it if I didn't have it
or it never worked right to start with. Plus, I just personally like
the older stuff I own better.
 
I like the digital for home theater. For just listening to music I like the old analog. Of course I have a bluetooth module in my tube amp, for when I just want to play something off my phone, so I continue to waffle.

The Home Theater is definitely a Big plus. But I do like to watch those old meters bounce.:bowdown:
 
I have a vintage TT (Technics) with an older digital receiver (Yamaha). I honestly prefer the vintage pieces as long as they are quality. So much is made in China now, which I am not a fan of. So even if we are talking digital, it has to be pre-China manufacturing boom.
 
I have been listening to silver-faced gear from the late 60s thru early 80s for the last few years.
I really liked that 'warm' sound.
I stumbled upon a Yamaha RX-850V a while back for $25.
The Yamaha does have that more balanced sound to it, but it is really nice.
It also has an excellent tuner.
Now I am not so sure which I like better.
I will settle for both.
I have a Sansui 771 and a Pioneer SX1000TW set up in a bedroom, and the Yamaha in the living room.

You have your opinion. Just wondering what type of equipment the majority of AKers prefer and the benefits of having one or the other. There are advantages for both. Who said anyone was wrong? Maybe I'm trying to start a war between Music and Movie people or something?:dunno::dunno::dunno:

I have had lots of both, and there is a clear advantage of buying new. The only advantage old equipment has is the price to buy it. But that can even go by the wast side, more money to get it fixed up, and even then will need servicing of old pots yearly. And even then it can go up in smoke after you did all that.

Yeah I guess, but like most equipment, the more that's stuffed in one box the more inferior it is to have the best SQ. As far as SQ between a 20 year old AVR and a 50 year old Receiver isn't much different. I would give the edge to the oder Receiver for SQ and the edge to the AVR for not needing service. But depending how the AVR handles 2ch operation it can easily beat out a old receiver. But if it takes a analog source converts it to digital and then back to analog....it sucks.

Analog Direct or a Good Dac. A quality AVR can do Both. Both sound great. Bass management is also a plus. Everyone's hearing is a bit different. That's why we have choices.

But again as I said the more that's stuffed into one box the worse it is for SQ. There is less and less room for the individual components under the hood, so they have to be smaller and made of less quality.

Everyone might have a different reference point as to SQ, if you never had a supper nice system a AVR and some cheap floor standers could be the dream system. Someone with a super nice system knows it sounds like crap.
