Modern Pro-next T1 or older Sanyo TP-626?

Hey guys. I am new to here. Wanted your thoughts. I am new to turntables. I recently bought a used Pro-ject T1. I like it, it sounds nice, but it feels a cheap. I like the looks of the older turn tables and am wondering if I can get a better quality older one for the same price and sell the project. Just came across a Sanyo TP-626. Looks really nice and the build quality seems to be much better than my project. Do you guys think it would be worth selling my project and picking up an older and higher quality TT? I can see myself getting further down the rabbit hole of upgrading and wanting one with more character.

Or should I wait for a nice vintage Technic table?

I just purchased a TP-626 to replace 50-year-old Project/One TT. Same mfg and model. Had it professionally restored using some of the Project/One parts. Sounds and looks great! It fits my needs to a “T”.

If you are new to turntables, it might be better to hold off and gain more experience with what you have. Does the Project tt have a built in preamp that you are using? If so, you might look into a phono preamp as a step up to improve the sound. What cartridge is on your Project?

As for the 626, I have one , though after owning it for ten years, kicked it into storage the other day.
The tonearm is pretty good, it’s a nice suspended tt.
Only thing I disliked was the crappy wood vinyl peeling off which made it look cheap. There are threads where people did cheap mods on them.
Keep in mind that it’s semi auto and I don’t care for technics autos as they use a different ( inferior ) tonearm ( I prefer 1210 manual.) keep the Sanyo.
Btw, that same table was sold with the Marantz name and if you see one for sale, it’ll likely be hundreds more because of it lol.
The bad rep behind the Sanyo name keeps their tt’s cheap even though they’re made by CEC.

OP I agree with @sound hound that if you are new to phono it might be a good idea to use the Pro-ject for a while and learn about turntables, phono preamps and cartridges before taking a next step. There are plenty of used turntables out there at all price points but it helps to know what kind of money you'd like to spend, what 'style' of machine you might prefer, how 'into it' you become, etc.

Last, I've owned a bunch of turntables and some of my favorites have been 'plank' models including machines from U-Turn and Rega. There are some very, very nice machines in that style that also happen to be very lightweight, so the fact that yours is basic and probably lightweight won't necessarily equate with it being a poor model.
