Modern Replacement for A798 Dual PNP

Hi Folks,

Wish to share that I had success replacing a pesky 2SA798 in a Sansui 11000 phono stage with a BCM856BS.115 dual matched PNP from Digikey (part # 1727-5424-1-ND).

It's a TSSOP-6, so you'll need an adapter, pointy iron tip and steady hands!

Channel balance is great and voltages are within schematic spec after replacement. Sonics are close to the original.

Any other success stories or part types to share for this wee beastie?

Toshiba 2SA1873, and 2SA1618 also work very nicely. Even better actually, as they are common emitter like the original. A pair of KSA992 also work pretty well too.

Indeed a pair of KSA992 work and I have done that method (after matching them for Vbe and hfe) when an A798 is used as a diff. input pair of the PA sections of amps.... especially when I need to add a DC balance trimmer as well.

Another really nice part, one I have recently become aware of, is Toshiba HN4A06J. Dual PNP, common emitter. It is another gain ranking up from the aforementioned 2SA1873.
