Modern substitute for Yamaha R-2000

Is there a modern receiver with WiFi and transmitting abilities that is comparable in sound quality (and possibly looks) to a vintage Yamaha R-2000 (or a CR-2040)?

I do have a Wiim Pro Plus that I currently use as a DAC and for streaming - but I’d like to add the ability to wirelessly (ideally via WiFi not Bluetooth) transmit audio, in order to replace my secondary set of (currently wired, analog) speakers with wireless speakers.

I’m having a hard time deciding if I should add wireless transmitting and ADC devices to the R-2000, or if it’d be worth adding a more recent integrated receiver (with all that already built in) for a second set of wireless speakers.

I should mention that I’d like to be able to play the wired main speakers at the same time as the wireless secondary speakers - the Wiims restrict the users to select only one of its outputs at a time.

Yep - it looks good and sounds good on paper - but the reviews I read aren’t great. Considering the price tag I expected them to live up to something like the pin quality of an R-2000. But maybe some of you here had better experiences?

It seems like the main issue with the R-N1000A and up is, according to experts testing/measuring them, the noise level of their amp section? But that’s just based on random Google searches. I’m not a tech so I don’t know how much of that really translates to audible noise or distortion anyway.

But they also seem to fall a bit short when it comes to transparency and clarity of their sound, but that too is probably subjective.

I’m loyal to Yamaha based on the sound and looks of vintage models like the R-2000 or the CR-2040 and such. Robust build, unforgivingly clear, transparent sound but dead “quiet” operation, good phono stages, and enough power and headroom.
But maybe it’s just not fair to compare some of the better units of the HiFi hay days to current receivers that have to pack in a lot more features and access options.

Would I be better off with some of Yamaha’s more AV-focused multi-channel receivers (with WiFi built in, if there are any)? From what I’ve seen so far I don’t appreciate their looks though, but if they perform better…

Since this would drive mainly the remote, secondary speakers, I could probably sacrifice some wattage and look at a more budget-friendly solution like a WX-C and WX-A model, but I’m guessing they won’t do all of what I want, and the SQ may not be satisfactory? At least less eyesore and less footprint.
Similar with the Wiim Amp I guess.

Are there any other brands/models I should consider?
 
Personally, I would always opt for an external Wifi/streaming box over built in. The tech changes somewhat quickly, and in my experience audio manufacturers are not great at software/updates (Sennheisers $400 headphones are absolutely HORRIBLE from a user experience/software perspective, and buggy on top of it). Right now I've got a Yamaha A-S501 I like, build quality seems to be very good IMO, and opening it up there's a lot of familiar components, and very clean. And if I were to upgrade I would go for one of their higher end models, sans any sort of onboard wireless/streaming capability. Probably the A-S1200/2200 for myself. Just throwing it out there for consideration.

I may keep my R-2000 and upgrade to a good integrated at some point.
I’m now contemplating between either adding another Wiim Pro Plus to the R-2000 out and a Mini to the powered remote speakers, or getting a set of Audioengine W3 adapters instead. Food for separate post I guess…
 
There might come a day when I'll be content with an all-in-one box solution with built in streaming, but I'm not there yet because I'm still a separates fan. I haven't gone so far as having a separate DAC because the DACs in my streamer and preamp are hard to beat. I understand brand loyalty because I've been there for quite some time, but there are a lot of fantastic integrated amp options available today that I wouldn't hesitate to try even though they aren't my preferred brand.
