Modern versatile preamp to partner Rotel RB980

Hi everyone, can you suggest worthy preamps (tube or solid state), at under $500 new or used, including phono preamp and inputs for tape, aux etc, that would partner a Rotel RB980 power amp? I would like some form of contour / loudness / presence control and something that looks the part too (to replace a Marantz 2230, perhaps....). Anything come to mind? Cheers, Jon

Hi Jon,

I use an adcom GTP 500 with my 980bx and it sounds divine. They are inexpensive because nobody wants a tuner! Has a cut switch for the tone as well as a lab output which removes some capacitors from the circuit. If you are icky you may even find one with a working remote control.
