Modifying a cheap suitcase turntable.....

We all know how terrible these Crosley Cruisers (and its clones) sound.

Found a cheaper variant, badged as a Magnavox, with the intention to experiment with it. Decided to rewire the cartridge wires so that they are connected to the RCA output jacks as the first experiment

After this, I dug out my 1960s Magnavox FM-28 tube stereo, remembering it had a ceramic phono input.

I don't think I'll ever be into suitcase style turntables but this is a pretty cool idea. I love modifying cheap/odd things and seeing how far you can push the limits.

One thing I should point out is that the real reason why these sound very tinny is that the amplifiers they use are meant for line-level input, while the P-188/CZ800 cartridge (and any ceramic cartridge, overall) requires a high impedance input, which the amplifier can't provide, resulting in an impedance mismatch that can be clearly heard (tinny sounding, no bass).
