Modifying Headphones?

A couple of years ago,I got a pair of vintage Pickering OA-3 for free. They're in great condition and they look cool. However,the drivers inside these headphones sound awful,so I kept the cans in a drawer and used them a few times as backup headphones for gigs.

Anyhow. I just disassembled them to take a look inside and it appears the drivers are 55mm in diameter. Can anyone point me in the right direction how I can modify these with modern drivers and which drivers I can use? Also,I wouldn't mid swapping the old cord.

Greetings; These phones are rated 'low-fi' and IMO? Generally restoring headphones is usually mediocre unless you start with really good ones.

I'll give you a hint... there's a set of grado prestige sr80i 's on the bay now that if you compare costs? you could probably get a deal on these. I own same and better than the 60e or 80e rated. (check your ak messaging)

Thanks for the recommendation. I've always been curious about Grado headphones. I'll check them out sometime. However,I would still like to mod the Pickering headphones.
