Mods for MVP861 ????

I have to send in my MVP861 for warranty service (very, very noisey transport) and I was wondering if any one knows if there are any mods that should be installed while it's down in mcintosh land. The unit has a manufacturing date of March 2005.
Thanks Ed

I think some of the very first ones needed a power supply upgrade. Or is that the MS300?

Yes. Power supply upgrade and software upgrade. The McDudes will know by the serial number what your unit needs. Also, you may get a new metal case out of the deal. Sweet!

Why would there be a new metal case? Maybe it was a good thing that the transport on the MVP861 went south!I've told by the dealer it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get the player back. Seems that the flooding down at mc land has caused a back-up of service. i guess I will just have to humm my music for a couple of months.

I was told that you could tell if the MVP861 had been upgraded by the case. The new case has far more ventillation holes in it.

On the MVP861 we discovered the power supply was running hot when playing an action movie. This is not a problem except at high altitude where the air cooling drops off.
The solution was more ventilation on the case work and the problem is gone. All 861s have the heavy vented case now. Do not mount the 861 in a way that restricts air movement over the case and these will run for a very long time.

Thanks,
Ron-C

It's difficult to explain but it sounds like a grinding,wooing-wooing hum. That's about the only way I can discribe it. I compaired the sound of the 861 at the dealer to mine and his was close to silent.

Ed,

That does not sound right. Your machine may be haywire. Does it make the noise on all disk types?

thanks,
Ron-C

Ed, how old is the unit? I would have your dealer check it. It may needto see the doctor.

thanks,
ron-C

Purchased new in June of 2005. I talked to the dealer and he agrees that there is a problem. Will be sending down to Mcintosh for repair. Only problem is that there is a 6 to 8 week service back up because of all the flooding they had down there. Maybe I should go out and get an iPod while I'm waiting for it to be repaired!

The flood happened just before summer shutdown where everyone takes a two week vacation. Balled things up at the factory for sure.

Thanks for your patience,
Ron-C
