MoFi quality control

I just ordered my first MFSL LP, direct from MFSL's website. I thought I'd try their Silver Label first.
I haven't received it yet.
I'll keep an ear out for any problems.

Most likely, bus still no excuse for them. I guess I'm just not much of a speakers guy. This, however, is during the tracks, and it's very subtle, which makes it far more annoying.

Do you find that you have to turn up the volume a bit on MOFI pressings? All I'm saying is maybe your listening preferences and their mastering decisions aren't a good match. If that is the case then you are bound to be unsatisfied with most of their pressings, regardless of how many times you exchange them.

More and more I'm in the camp of not using headphones with vinyl... so I expect some HD 580's will be going on sale in BT soon :)

Some things to note, audiophile records are cut at lower levels. Turn them up. Also, Mobile Fidelity does not de-horn their stampers. Which means that you need to play them at least 10 times unless one looks obviously defective for best sound and quietest surfaces.

Is this a fact or is this your opinion about MFSL? This is the first time I've heard that "de-horning" needed to be done. Got a reference?

They recommend playing it multiple times on their website and the sound shall improve, so let's see. I can't return it until next weekend, so hopefully it'll clear up.

I can proudly say I've been to all three amoebas, and love all of them!

Good to know that their "audiophile" LP's need to be de-horned with your expensive diamond stylus. I imagine a shibata would work best. Now I'm really glad I returned my terrible sounding MoFi copy.

Dehorning degrades the sound quality. It doesn't damage the stylus to 'sorta dehorn'.

Perhaps I'm the only one but I've never had a MFSL copy of anything that I've been less than thrilled with.

I wish, John. I put p with it though because they sound sooooooo good! I'm listening to my normal reissue copy of 'Kind Of Blue', but I can't wait for the MoFi copy!

I have had some experience with headphones

but I'm with JohnVF on both counts: I don't mix vinyl and cans and I've had great luck with MoFi, both the old stuff I used to buy in the 80's and their newer releases.

MFSL pressing is as a rule great, some of their recordings are equalled or bettered by other cheaper options. Do remember some of them have boosted EQ.

I just wanted to throw in my two cents on vinyl + headphones or speakers. I don't know if I just have crappy speakers or what, but records just sound better in my Grado headphones. And I find I just stop noticing whatever surface noise is there, and it doesn't bother me.
