Money for nothing !

Mark Knopfler at his best! Amazing the kind of junk the man produces nowadays, but with the Dire Straits he was absolutely amazing. I've got all of their albums, many on LP as well as CD. Money for Nothing is one of my all time favorite songs. Great material to test any stereo system with

I also like Billy Idol. In my late teens I went on vacation in the then Yugoslavia. We drove with two cars all the way down there from Germany. When we arrived, the guys in the other car were pretty much deaf. Billy Idol had just released a Best Of album, and the owner/driver of the other car had insisted on playing that same album over and over again all the way at the maximum volume of his substantial car stereo system. :D

I've never been a great fan of fancy mixes. So that thing doesn't do much for me.

Every time somebody posts a YouTube music link, I lose another three hours of my life.

Good thing my internet connection is slow as molasses, so I can't go chasing tunes on Youtube for 3 hours. :D

Speaking of Money for Nothing testing your system, that Herbie Hancock tune really will. I think similost played that one on his Barziwaves for me.

yeah, I remember the early days of Mtv, I loved the "Land of Confusion" Genesis Video, lol! I also remember a video by a group called "The Fixx", can't remember the song though. I remember "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Eat it", too. Also Talking Heads, Burning Down the House.

Yep, Rock It is my favorite speaker punishment test tune.. and I did play it for you.

BTW, Money For Nothing was the first video that was played on MTV Europe when it started in 87...

Ahhh, yes...... MTV at it's best. Those were the days.

I punished a few speakers and amps back then. :thmbsp:

Good times...

MTV was "can't look away" fascinating for the first year or two.

It didn't take long for the industry to figure out how to exploit it, and it didn't take long for MTV to sell out.

After a few years, people would have the worst assortment of tapes in their cars, and LP's in their homes. They'd buy whatever MTV played, good or bad.

My tastes run the usual rock/jazz/some classical range of a lot of AK'ers, I like a little bit of everything, as long as it's good.

When I started finding Milly Vanilly next to Led Zep's 4th album in people's collections, I knew the end was near.

Okay, evidently no one else caught this statement, or else decided to ignore it; regardless I can't let it go past without commenting on it.

I love Dire Straits as good as anyone I know. I have every album, some in multiple formats; but to say that what Mark has done since Dire Straits is junk either means that you either haven't been listening, or the music he produces nowadays isn't to your liking, or both.

Some of the greatest work of this man's career has happened in the last 20 years. His solo stuff, the Notting Hillbillies period, and the work he did with Chet Atkins and Kris Kristofferson is nothing short of brilliant, equal to Dire Straits in every possible way. IMO his solo lyrics are better now than they were in his youth, and his guitar playing is even more soulful and mature.

If his modern music isn't to your taste so be it, but if you haven't been keeping up with what he's been doing, give it a chance. It's anything but junk.

New this for me this year:

Dire Straghts- Bothers in arm (SACD). It's become my reference source material.

Billy Idol- Vital Idol. $1.50 at GW. I like it, I may get more Idol. I've always liked White Wedding. Idol is an excellent singer, even the S.O. said so.

Thanks for the posts. It's always nice to put faces, fingers, and lips to the music.

I was trying to ignore it.

Get Lucky is turning into a new favorite for me.
