Monitor Audio - Brand New Monitor Series Announced

New in my email box this AM. These appear to be the sub-Bronze replacement for the MR series, and have poly cones and a "black" C-CAM coated tweeter.

Interesting choices. I thought the gold on the tweeters aided in response, and the C-CAM woofers were light and rigid. Instead we get poly woofers and a step-down tweeter. Oh, by the way, that poly woofer is really, really ugly to boot.

Been a big MA fan for a long time, and still think the Silver 6 is one of the best values in audio. However, these seem to have little in common with the quality components of the Silver, or even the Bronze.

One of my favorite qualities of MA speakers is their elegant looks (even the MR and Bronze series look classy). These seem to be the bastard hybrid child of an illicit tryst between Cerwin-Vega and Klipsch. Ick. They scream "look at my ugly gray and orange speakers", not "Wow, I can't believe the great sound from such small and elegant boxes".

And sadly, based on the description, I have concern about how good they will actually sound.

Well, you've got to compete in the volume market zone to stay in business and these models must be called for at this point. Monitor Audio has been very good at getting high quality sound out of their drivers regardless of the design/construction specifics, so hopefully these new models will not be an embarrassment or diminish their reputation.

With the grills in place they look like thousands of other speakers, not ugly at all.
