Monitor Audio M series (M4)

I'm thinking about buying a pair of Monitor Audio M4, and am trying to find user reviews. Strangely, though, I cannot find anything online. I'm wondering if anyone has any information about this line of Monitor Audio. There is a lot out there for Gold, Silver, Platinum, Apex, etc. lines, but not one review of the M series. Is this a new series?

If you have the M series, specifically the M4, could you share your experience? Thanks much!

(if there is already a thread on this forum, I apologize, but searching for "monitor audio" doesn't really narrow things down much!)

Monitor M4 review

I purchased the Monitor Audio M4's a week ago from Magnolia. I couldn't be more pleased with the sound. They throw out a wide and deep sound stage,with excellent detail. The highs are ultra smooth but with great detail and extension. The midrange is very open and transparent,with voice,both male and female sounding extremely realistic. The bass extends to just below 40hz with great impact and control. Placement is very important to get the most even bass response. I had to move them out from the back wall about 4 feet to get the frequency response correct. The separation of individual instruments is quite remarkable for a speaker at this price point. I compared them to the RX6's at the store and to my ears they are very close in overall sound. There is a refinement of sound that the whole line of Monitor Audio speakers share. There is nothing budget about these speakers except the $600 list price. The spikes that come with the speakers are only about an inch long. I'm going to find some stands that will bring them off the floor a little higher than that. I have played most types of music with them(jazz,classical,rock,acoustic) all sound excellent. All in all, I would have to call this addition to the Monitor Audio line a glowing success. Ed
 
Thanks for the review! I really liked them when I heard them, too, but I wanted to make sure that they were not a "budget" version of true Monitor Audio speakers.
 
Wow! In one sentence you can totally discount an honest opinion about a speaker that is in my living room right now and producing beautiful sound. The fact that you have to walk into a best buy to get to the Magnolia store really shouldn't matter. Yes, they are the entry level speaker to the Monitor Audio line. So is the Magnepan MMG, the Martin Logan Source, and the Vandersteen 1C the starting point for these fine companies. They put their reputation on any product that has their name on it. The M4 uses the same excellent gold dome tweeter as their more costly speakers, and the midrange-bass drivers are very similar if not identical. The crossover uses high quality components also. Please don't discount these speakers before you give them a listen. Ed
 
Monitor Audio is a respectable (if only "mid tier") company from all I know. I've almost bought monitor speakers from them several times (looking at several lines); what stopped me was the description of their highs I've read from many users: that they tend to be brash, hard, and tizzy. (Something to do with the C-CAM technology).

Whether or not this is the "house sound" or only applies to some speakers in their line I do not know. And I've never heard any so...

I'm sure they make good/great speakers from all I've read about them, I just personally got scared away by the descriptions of the highs on the models I was looking at so I have looked elsewhere...so far.
 
I had heard that from a review of them also. So far I have heard the RX6, Rx8, and the M4's that I bought. They all sound ultra smooth on top. I have or had Magnepan, Vandersteen,Spica, and Meridian speakers. To my ears the c-cam gold dome tweeter is exceptional. These speakers do a dissapearing act as well as any I have had, and that is saying alot. There is an ease to the sound that is at first alarming, until you realise how uncolored the sound is, especially the mid to high frequencies. The sound is very even from top to bottom. I'm impressed, to say the least. Ed
 
Hello, i just found this thread. I'm in process of buying some speakers and Monitor Audio M4 are one off the top on the list.

@jecease: Which amp did you use to power the M4?

Has anybody any reviews for M4? There is not a lot information on the internet.

Nothing harsh about the tweeter in my Gold 10s wich took over front duty in my HT setup after they outperformed a set of Infinity P363 towers Iv'e used fore some time, and these days they also offer ribbon tweeters in their GX and Platinum lines and their cast aluminum drivers and excellent build quality on the cabs is a step up from most modern speaker makers products iv'e seen. I haven't heard the M4s but their design appears to be similar to the BX line and the BX2 has gotten some good reviews.

While I cant comment about the sound of the m4s, the g10s are some of the best iv'e heard to date and iv'e kept a close eye out for a good deal for some towers from that line since I got them.
