I tried to search this forum but didn't have any luck. Is there no love for Monitor Audio speakers here, either silver or gold series? At one time they seemed to have quite a following, but wasn't sure if while I've been away from audiophile forums that perhaps they had been maligned something akin to Bose? Perhaps they were more for the home theater useage than 2 channel stereo, just don't remember. At the time, they seemed more money than I had to spend, so I didn't concern myself, plus there was no place to hear or audition them nearby. I'm still enjoying my Polk RT-20p towers with the powered sub built in for HT and 2 channel stereo but now and then I like to see if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I used to be the Manufacturer's rep years ago for MA (for a brief time, we carried many European and Japanese high end lines.) and liked the product very much. My brother still has the flagship of that era. I did not like the direction they went later. They had some wonderful tweeters that must have been expensive because the product became expensive and I thought the balance of the speakers were off. Since then I was not enthusiastic about the line. I'm not against them in anyway, just enjoy other speakers more for less money. Patrick
 
Monitor Audio continues to have an excellent reputation and a devoted following. However, they do have a very dysfunctional distribution system in the US which limits listening opportunities.

I have a pair of MA10's - very open and transparent vocals. IMO, they sound quite not English in that respect.

Patrick, do you know anything about a small 2-way bookshelf speaker called the MA-16? They predate any other MA speaker I've been able to locate info about and are really first rate for their size.
 
It was a long time ago and I don't remember that model. Their build quality was always good and you can count on getting a well thought out product. There are many British companies that I would buy if the deal was right, without hesitation. B&W, KEF, MA, Rogers. There are others that depend, Castle and Wharfdale for instance. Some models are great and some are so so. I have found in the last decade or so that I can get equally good and similar sound from Canadian companies for much less. My personal favorate is PSB. Since I mostly buy used now, I really buy what I find and sort it out later. Patrick
 
Hi Fender23, and welcome to AK! Here is a thread started by submariner a while back that covers the Monitor Audio RS6. One factor here is that a lot of people are listening to strictly vintage speakers; however, there are many that team their vintage electronics with modern speakers. Also, there are many members who have large collections of speakers, some new, some old. It boggles the mind ; )
